Biography

Tamara Ducote was born in the Midwest in 1964. She received a B.S. in elementary education from the Ohio State University. In the early 1990s, Tamara moved to Mobile. Despite persistent rumors to the contrary, she was NOT kicked out of Ohio. Semi-reliable sources attest that she left voluntarily.

In 1994, Tamara received an M.S. in community counseling from the University of South Alabama. Ironically, she was then employed as a substance abuse counselor for two local treatment facilities. Following this, she worked as a protective services investigator for the Department of Human Resources. In 1998, Tamara began working for the Mobile County Public School System as a teacher. Tamara currently teaches first grade.

Tamara admires the writings of Charles Bukowski and David Sedaris. Her passions include herpetology and chess. Her favorite color is green. She is a single parent who has seen no reason to date since Warren Zevon died.

Tamara received the “Best General Column in Print Media- award from the Mobile Press Club for 2005. She was thrilled, and is sure that one day soon, her head will deflate enough to allow her to pass through doorways normally again.
