Mobile Artists show opening
Where: Patina Gallery (54 Section St., Fairhope)

The Eastern Shore’s heralded Patina Gallery looks westward to gather inspiration for featured talent. The opening during the February version of Fairhope’s wildly successful First Friday Artwalks is a great chance for those wanting to escape the throngs in downtown Mobile on the last weekend of Mardi Gras.
Featured in the show are Heather Petterson, Ron Lindquist, Mark Tidmore, Brad Robertson, Jamie Kirk and Alan Watson. There will also be performance work by Joshua Moonshine, a graffiti artist who starred in December’s Oakleigh Arts Festival.

Rodin: A Magnificent Obsession
Where: Mobile Museum of Art (4850 Museum Dr. in Langan Park)
When: Through Sunday, March 23
Auguste Rodin is one of Western Civilization’s most acclaimed artists and his realistic and kinetic masterpieces paved the way to modern sculpture despite the widespread criticism of his Nineteenth Century contemporaries. His brooding masterpiece, “The Thinker” represents for many a transcendence beyond the mythological and into the essence of humanity.
This exhibition of 68 of his bronze works is made possible by the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation and ranges from monumental pieces to maquettes and includes photos, works on paper and various documents.
Museum hours are Mon – Sat, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sun, 1 – 5 p.m. Entrance is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and military, $6 for students and group rates are available.

The Hermitage Ballet
Where: Mobile Civic Center Theater (401 Civic Center Dr.)
When: Monday, Feb. 11, 7 p.m.
The Hermitage Ballet of St. Petersburg, Russia is composed of dancers from the Vaganova School and headliners stem from the Mariinski Theater, the Bolshoi and the Mussorgsky Opera Theater.
The company has toured Europe and the Far East for decades and this is their debut tour of the United States.
The program is their “Gala Performance” and consists of the most important scenes from Russian classical ballet history. The repertoire includes two numbers from “Swan Lake,” scenes from “Sleeping Beauty,” “Giselle,” “Nutcracker,” “Corsair,” “Don Quixote,” and “The Dying Swan” all performed by the finest dancers the Russian school has to offer.
