BayFest Eats and Drinks
If you find yourself famished or thirsty during BayFest you’ll have a few options this year.
Busaba’s Thai Cuisine, right in the middle of all the action, will be selling beer on the street just outside of their Dauphin Street establishment.
Liquid Sushi Lounge is open until 2 a.m. to fill your bellies with raw fish and, just next door at the Dauphin St. Taqueria in the OK Bicycle Shop you’ll be able to find beer specials for football games and authentic Mexican until Midnight.
Serda’s Coffee Co. will be extending their regular Sunday hours till 10 p.m. on Oct. 5 for anyone who needs a cup of coffee or a wrap to help sober up and prepare for a much-dreaded Monday. Or if you just plan on calling in sick, there’s beer too.
“Bama Breeze” turbine at Lulu’s
Lulu’s at the Homeport Marina is going green. The restaurant will have installed a 45-foot wind turbine to help power the restaurant’s outdoor kitchen and bar by the time you read this. The first along the Gulf Coast to do so, Lulu’s will expect to see a 25-40 percent decrease in annual energy costs from the turbine.
“It’s a combined effort by the chamber and the cities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach to create sustainable practices on the island. LuLu’s is glad to lead the way as the first restaurant to take this sort of step-one of many we’re taking,” said general manager Johnny Fisher.
ESho cuisine scene is sprouting
The Lofty Tapas Lounge has opened at 10 N. Section St. in Fairhope and patrons are leaving full and happy. Tapas, the Spanish word for appetizer, has developed into an entire cuisine of its own and Aaron Myers along with Jillian Gorski will provide you with any combination of tapas on the menu.
The restaurant opened during the September Art Walk and has a variety of offerings. You can order Tuna and Goat Cheese Empanadas or Grilled Chicken Satay, all while sipping on a Mint Infused Saki Martini or two. I sense a trip to Fairhope in Kinnon’s future.
Something Sweet
Also, a new bakery has opened on the Eastern Shore. Something Sweet will be located next to Uncorked in Daphne. Lagniappe sources say the new ESho bakery is also in the planning stages of potentially offering progressive dinners with Uncorked and Will Hughes. Our sources also tell us Something Sweet has quite the Snickerdoodle!
Roussos find new digs
Also Roussos, a longtime staple of Fort Conde Village, hightailed it for the hot new Eastern Shore Center in Spanish Fort a few years ago. Now, they’ve moved for the second time within a few years. The new location is in Daphne and is more easily accessible with better parking close to the building. Roussos is also sporting a new menu with affordable options for all.
Pintolli’s at the old Picklefish a No Go
The plans for Pintolli’s to lease the old downtown Picklefish location are off the table. A Pintolli’s employee confirmed the matter, telling Lagniappe the manager who had planned to open the new location recently passed away.
