Loves food reviews

Hi, Kinnon:

My name is Tammy Smith, and I work at the Sun Herald in Biloxi/Gulfport. I’m actually the @Home editor – it’s the home and garden section. But I’m also on the Eats rotation for our entertainment section, “Marquee.”

It was with great joy that I found your archived reviews of Mobile spots on the Lagniappe Web site. I found it when I Googled “Bilotti’s.” A friend who recently moved to Mobile had raved and raved about the place, so when I stayed in town one weekend earlier this month, that’s where I went for dinner that Saturday night.

Well, as soon as I got the menu, I sadly remembered that this was the very same friend who used to rave about Mary Mahoney’s. In fact, I unintentionally hurt her feelings once when I said I thought Mahoney’s was vastly overrated. (FYI, I ordered the Pasta Bilotti’s with shrimp. Thank God I added the shrimp.) When I Googled, I was hoping to find some comment somewhere that would back up my lack of enthusiasm.

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how enjoyable your reviews are. From my own knowledge and from comments from (other) friends, you certainly know of what you write. And how I respect a reviewer who can appreciate good food, at whatever level it’s found. Good food is good food, whether it’s served on a white cloth or a Formica countertop.

So, in a nut-graph, thanks so much for your honest, entertaining and evenhanded reviews. I look forward to the future ones.

Tammy Smith

Who needs industry? We got the Confederacy!

To the editor:

I realize that there are factions that are plotting to do away with my ancestor’s (sic) historic past of heroism, patriotism, and loyalty to the original intent of the original Constitution and Bill of Rights. However, they lost the War of Northern Aggression on this matter and they were treated worse after the war in “Reconstruction” than we treat countries today that we go into so called war with.

With that being said, now comes the traitor Jim Folsom who took our ancestor’s last remaining symbol “the Battle Flag of the Confederacy” off the Capitol of Dixie. In the Press-Register on the front page is a story where he along with others who abandon and disgraced Southern history wants the State of Alabama to apologize for slavery, NEVER.

The reason stated is that in order to get the Thyssen-Krupp steel mill in Northern Mobile County they think that we should apologize for slavery.

The article goes on to state what Senators Hank Sanders and Vivian Figures, both black I might add, would help Alabama add jobs with Thyssen-Krupp’s business here in Alabama. I suggest that Thyssen-Krupp go to Maryland, Virginia or North Carolina where they have succumbed to this distortion of the truth to satisfy only 12 percent of the United States population.

As for me and my house, we choose to worship the true God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. We believe in good neighbor policies as laid out in the Bible, but we will not tolerate the lies perpetrated anymore about our Christian beliefs and the beloved warriors of the Southland who laid everything down for true freedom under a Democratic Republic. They promised their lives, honor and all their worldly values and their fathers did also before them for the perpetuity of this freedom for their future generations.

PS: And would you believe that April is Confederate History Month? I have heard not one TV, newspaper, or radio program declaring this. I challenge all you media people who abide by the First Amendment to the Bill of Rights for equal time for Southern Heritage.

A Good Ole Rebel
