The Rundown
BayFest 2007 is coming with a vengeance! Many rockers out there will be ecstatic to know that Velvet Revolver has been added to the line-up for Friday night, Oct. 5. The combination of Bayfest veteran Scott Weiland and the former members of Guns N’ Roses should bring the city to its nannah, nannah, nannah, nannah knees, but it doesn’t stop there.
Also headlining Friday night will be Alice in Chains. Many were upset at the demise of this band after Layne Staley’s overdose, and many people over the years have tried to fill his shoes. Surviving Jerry Cantrell, Mike Inez and Sean Kinney recruited William Duvall and are taking the band on the road again. It seems as if 2007 will be a rocking year for Mobile’s music festival.
Black Crowes at beach
Since the beginning of 2007, the public has been teased with rumors of the Black Crowes coming to the area. Finally, this Southern rock super group has been confirmed at The Wharf in Orange Beach for Aug. 28. The Black Crowes put on a truly excellent performance as many have witnessed over the years. It’s safe to say that their performance at The Wharf will be no exception. There’s also a good chance that fans will be able to experience some of the cuts off of their upcoming 2008 release. Until then, the combined CD/DVD “Brothers of a Feather” is not available. Joining the Crowes will be the North Mississippi All-Stars.
Western Lands in East Mobile
Instrumental rockers The Western Lands will be performing at Cell Block on July 18. This trio has a habit of pummeling their audience with thunderous instrumentation and an electrifying stage presence. They may tease the audience with a surf rock tune only to bring them into submission with an organized chaos of metal and punk. Joining them will be Mouth of the Architect and Made Out of Babies. This show is not for the weak of heart!
Coe at Soul Kitchen
There isn’t a karaoke night that goes by in the Southeast without a David Allan Coe song being sung. Coe has become the poster child for the honky-tonk lifestyle with his songs of hard livin’ and drinkin’. Tickets are currently on sale for Coe’s Soul Kitchen performance on Aug. 2 (doors at 8 p.m.) courtesy of Huka Entertainment. Coe recently released “Rebel Meets Rebel.” This was a collaborative effort between Coe and the late Dimebag Darrell Abbot. This one definitely assures the listener that fans of both Dimebag and Coe will be extremely pleased.
