The truth is in the eye
Descriptions of “Life is But a Dream: Contemporary Figurative Photography” revolve “the subtext of ‘truth’ in photographs and the way it folds itself into our personal experience and visual culture.” Inspiration was provided by an incident whereby an altered photo was made a Pulitzer Prize finalist before the resulting furor ended with resignations and disgrace.
On Sunday, Aug. 12 a “conversation” between local photo-journalists and attendees will be moderated by curator Clayton Colvin. The panel discussion begins at 2 p.m.

American icon in the park
This satire on American society is set in 1958 and centers hip-swiveling, teen heartthrob Conrad Birdie and his rapidly approaching army enlistment. Birdie’s agent Albert Peterson and Peterson sweetheart Rose Alvarez concoct a publicity stunt to send the superstar off in style on national television. But things don’t go exactly as planned and reveal some surprising private sides of the characters.
The original Broadway hit spawned a hit movie, a recent television remake and a catalogue of familiar tunes into the American songbook.
Evening shows begin at 7: 30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. Entrance is $15.
