Well my pretties, it has been a pretty tame couple of weeks. Really, I think you guys have just been too spread out, which makes it hard for the Boozester to keep up with all of the naughtiness. But I did manage to throw a few things together for your gossip-loving perusal. And just a little reminder before we get down and dirty: For all of you guys on myspace, make sure to go to myspace.com/booziebeernues and ask to be my friend. You can give the Boozester tips, and I send out gossip bulletins for those of you who just can’t wait until the next issue. I need more friends. I’m lonely. Heart and Soul Hearts were breakin’ all over ‘Bama, when Web sites TMZ and Splash posted photos of American Idol and Alabama native Taylor Hicks smoochin’ and frolickin’ on a Hawaiian beach with a lovely lady they identified as Caroline Lyders, a TV news journo from Milwaukee, Wis. Lyders confirmed in a report she and the Soul Patrol leader were indeed "friends." Hicks’ camp declined to comment. Incidentally, Caroline Lyders was one of the most searched names on the Web last week. A Fresh Breath of Saltaire I had a spy at the Saltaire groundbreaking last week, and was told it was an absolutely breathtaking piece of property, the plans are impressive and the affair was fabulous. For those of you who haven’t heard about this place, it’s a planned development on the way to Dauphin Island, off Hwy 193, which is situated between Fowl River and Mobile Bay. The word on the lawn was a few of the designers from Watercolor, a beach community in the Florida panhandle, helped sketch out the plans for this SoMo town (yes, it will even have its own zip code). Mobile County Commissioner Mike Dean (who made a few snarky comments to our spy about a fellow commissioner – hee hee) and his wife were in attendance, as were Mobile City Council president Reggie Copeland and his "bride," as he often calls her and Councilwomen Connie Hudson and Gina Gregory. Former city councilor and State Senator Ben Brooks sped down from Montgomery, making a joke one of the perks of being a state senator is being able to (legally) put the pedal to the metal. After cocktails and dinner, the guests were treated to a fireworks show that rivaled New Year’s Eve displays. Then they lit the trees. Hopefully some of Boozie’s rich friends will buy one of the units, so she can sun down there. Flora-Bama Fibbin’ Well, of course, the Flora-Bama was absolutely packed Memorial Day weekend, especially on Saturday night after the Lynyrd Skynyrd/Hank Williams, Jr. show at The Wharf Amphitheatre. Lawyers boogied right along with laborers as the Wayne Mills Band played all weekend. I hear on Sunday night, rumors were flying around that Skynyrd’s guitarist would be sitting in with Wayne Mills Band. My spy says that at least three people came up to her and said, "did you hear Skynyrd’s guitarist is going to show up later tonight. Don’t tell anyone though; it’s a secret." Later the spy found out, the guitarist from the Wayne Mills Band just wanted to have a little fun and told a handful of people the fib, but told them all not to tell anyone. He just wanted to see how fast word would spread. It was faster than a barefooted woman in cutoff jean shorts and a Confederate flag bikini top at midnight. There’s a new meat market in town The Bluegill was also packed the Sunday of Memorial Day. I hear there was "lots of flirting and fraternizing," and one spy described it as "Mobile’s newest meat market." So all you singles, head on out to The Gill on Sundays. Oh. I also heard Peek was playing that same day. Their lead singer,Chris, turned 30, and it was wild. I want to say someone told me they filmed a video to send in for "American Idol’s" new band competition. Anyway, there was a major throw down for the birthday boy at the after-party at Veets! Our spywitness says there was "lots of groping." No reports on who were the gropers and who were the grop-ees. Sightings…. P-R publisher Howard Bronson and RSA honcho David Bronner dining at the swanky new Trellis Room at the Battle House. Our spy reported the new restaurant is absolutely amazing. Others have echoed the same sentiment about the restaurant as well as the bar, The Royal Street Tavern, where I hear they make a mean mojito. And of course, everyone has said, "It’s so nice, you didn’t even feel like you were in Mobile." People, we have got to stop saying that. We have a nice town. Others sightings… Bela Fleck and and the Flecktones having breakfast at Spot of Tea the morning of their show May 31 at the Mobile Civic Center Theater. Just asking…. Which local TV news reporter just got a new convertible and was devastated to find out he couldn’t get "MEOW" as his personalized tag? Well, guys, this is all the news that’s not really fit to print for this time. Just remember, whether rain or shine, dramatic or scandalous or just some plain ol’ Idol smoochin’, I will be there. Ciao.
