Tommy Tuberville Social Security

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville speaks on the Senate floor Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

Tommy Tuberville called Social Security a “government-approved Ponzi scheme” on the Senate floor Wednesday. Income tax records show he received nearly $100,000 from the program over three years in addition to his Senate salary and other retirement benefits.

Speaking July 29, the Republican U.S. Senator and candidate for Alabama governor said Social Security was “set up to fail from the beginning,” arguing Americans are forced to pay into a broken retirement system that gives them little say over their own money.
