Statewide Amendments

Alabama voters will decide May 19 whether to loosen guardrails on when judges can deny bond to those accused of crimes.

Statewide Amendment 1 would add attempted murder, solicitation or conspiracy to commit murder and shooting into occupied homes, buildings or vehicles to the list of charges that can trigger a no-bond hearing, often coined an “Anaiah’s Law” hearing. A second proposed amendment on the primary ballot would prevent district attorney salaries from being reduced during their terms.
