A list of the “sexually explicit” texts Alabama Public Library Service Chairman John Wahl said the Fairhope Public Library should remove from its youth sections includes lengthy novels about abuse and guidebooks cataloged for teenagers.
Wahl, who is also the leader of the Alabama Republican Party, sent an open letter to the public and media members Monday explaining APLS’ stance on library books and materials containing various depictions of sexual activity and what the Fairhope Public Library’s leadership needs to do to have its state funding reinstated. The APLS board voted Thursday, Mar. 20 to temporarily suspend the Eastern Shore library’s state funding of approximately $40,000 until it complies with policies for “obscene” materials.
