Argosy VI

Shown is an image of the Argosy VI, a former casino river boat that will be turned into an artificial reef 23 miles off the coast of Orange Beach.

A former casino riverboat will be sunk next week off the coast of Orange Beach as part of an effort to create artificial reef systems across the American Gulf coast.

The sinking, which was announced Friday by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, will occur Wednesday, July 1, roughly 23 miles off the coast “to create important marine fisheries habitat and become a fishing and scuba diving location in the state’s largest artificial reef zone.”
