Andrew Jones Senate vote

Sen. Andrew Jones, R-Centre, (bottom left) speaks on a bill to restructure Alabama's veterans affairs administration in the Alabama Senate.

A controversial bill endorsed by Gov. Kay Ivey to reorganize Alabama’s veterans affairs administration will return to the Senate floor for voting later, after lawmakers approved several amendments to the legislation Tuesday afternoon.

Filed by Sen. Andrew Jones, R-Centre, Senate Bill 67 would include the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs (ADVA) commissioner in the governor’s cabinet and remake the State Board of Veterans Affairs (SBVA) into an advisory group largely appointed by the governor. The legislation advanced last week through a committee Jones chairs and arrived on the Senate floor Tuesday.
