The Alabama State Bar Association is investigating after a report uncovered that the owner of a Washington, D.C.–based law firm has overlapping interests with a network of injury clinics where its lawyers routinely litigate insurance claims.

Several lawyers linked to the Vacek Law Group responded to questions from Lagniappe about their work with the practice and their connections to its founder, 27-year-old Williem Daniel Vacek. Multiple were surprised to learn their names were being used in the firm’s letterhead, and all stated they were unaware of Vacek’s deep connections to the injury clinic network.
