The governor has finally done it: he’s made a flip-flop I can support. He may have done it last minute, and it may mostly be a move aimed at distracting Alabamians from his ever-deepening personal and political scandal, but he’s done it nonetheless. Doctor-Governor Robert “Spend your money in Florida” Bentley has hopped on the common-sense bandwagon and announced his support for a statewide vote on a lottery.

To be clear, it’s not the ideal proposal. Bentley said in a video announcement of his decision to call a special session on the issue that he wants the revenue generated by the lottery to go to the state’s general fund, which pays for things like Medicaid and state prisons.
