Trainers examine St. Michael QB Gunner Rivers following injury against Battle Ground Academy

Last season is one the Murphy football program wants to put in the rearview mirror. The Panthers suffered through their second consecutive 0-10 season, stretching the program’s losing streak to 22 games.

They are on the cusp of starting a new season. They were idle in last week’s first week of games and will travel to Montgomery on Friday to face Park Crossing in the Panthers’ season-opening game. The Thunderbirds appeared to be the perfect team for Murphy to face to open the season as they too entered the 2026 season on a 22-game losing skid. But Park Crossing ended its losing streak last Friday night with a 21-8 victory over Woodlawn.
