 The Dauphin Island Race was once considered among the largest one-day, point-to-point sailboat regattas in the United States. It was not uncommon to have almost 300 vessels plying the waters of Mobile Bay.

However, few will be as memorable as the 65th annual regatta. Jennifer Stanley, the fleet captain for Fairhope Yacht Club, has shared the story of the winning captain and his incredible gesture.
