Philip Rivers

Philip Rivers has led the St. Michael football team to a 42-16 record in his five seasons as head coach of the Cardinals. That includes a 25-3 mark the past two seasons that included two trips to the Class 4A state semifinals. The Cardinals’ program was a dismal 5-25 before he stepped on campus.

After a month back in the NFL on a temporary basis as a quarterback with the Indianapolis Colts, Rivers attracted the attention of fans again throughout the NFL, returning to the field after an almost five-year absence to help the Colts in their quest to qualify for the playoffs. And while he was 0-3 as a starter — due more to a non-productive defense than the team’s offensive efforts — he gained a lot of respect within the league for his play as well as his knowledge of the game and the inspiration he provided his Colts’ teammates.
